MTV launches localised Snapchat channel in France
Viacom-owned music channel MTV has launched a localised ‘Publisher Story’ on Snapchat’s Discover platform in France.

This is Viacom’s first fully localised, non-English channel to debut on Snapchat Discover. MTV in English is already available on Snapchat in the US and internationally.

MTV is the first television channel in France to join Snapchat Discover, offering French Snapchatters exclusive, localised “Snaps” updated daily combining video and editorial news.

A team in France will produce Publisher Stories for the platform, in partnership with colleagues based in London and in New York.

MTV’s International and domestic US Snapchat Discover content features a range of material created exclusively for the platform and updated daily. The channel has created original content for the platform including Pants Off in the US and Show Us Ur Phone with Charlotte Crosby internationally. Recently, MTV US debuted its first Snapchat Show, a newly reimagined Cribs that offers viewers a sneak peek into a different room or area of their favourite artists and athletes homes.

In addition to the three MTV Snapchat Discover editions, Snapchat also features Comedy Central on its domestic US and International Snapchat Discover platform.

“We are huge fans of Snapchat, and continue to see strong engagement across our international and US MTV Snapchat Discover editions. We can’t wait to bring a localized version to audiences in France,” said Kerry Taylor, CMO, Viacom International Media Networks and SVP, youth and music, MTV International.

“As a youth brand, we have to connect with fans across all the platforms they know and love. Snapchat Discover is the perfect way to do just that while at the same time experimenting with great, creative short-form content.”
Russia’s TNT eyes international expansion
The Russian broadcaster TNT has decided to focus its efforts on expanding internationally.

As a result, reports Kommersant, its general producer Alexander Dulerain, who has been in the post since 2009, will now be responsible for developing projects for an international audience.

Dulerain will work alongside Roman Petrenko, a former general director of TNT.

Although this is considered a new area for TNT, the Gazprom Media-owned company has sold formats abroad before, including an experimental one to Fox several years ago.

Meanwhile, its domestic audiences have been declining since 2015.

TNT’s share in the 14-44 target age group between Jnauary and May this year was 10.4%, down from 11.5% in the corresponding period in 2016.
HS3-IS satellite successfully launched

Hellas Sat, member of the Arabsat Group, announced the successful launch of the HS3-IS Satellite aboard an Ariane 5 launch vehicle from the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana. The Ariane 5 liftoff occurred at 11:08 Athens time, carrying the HS3-IS satellite that was built by Thales Alenia Space. HS3-IS will maintain and expand DTH and telecom services for the Hellas Sat business reach in Europe, Middle East and Africa from the orbital position of 39 Degrees East.
Sky Sports signs 5-yr partnership deal with Cricket Board

Sky Sports has signed a new five-year partnership with the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that includes live rights to international and county cricket from 2020 to 2024, including every match from the new T20 competition. The parties will also look to drive participation and further interest in the game. No financial details were provided
LatAm HDTV penetration to reach 68% of subs in 2022

The penetration of HD over the total pay-TV subscriber base in Latin America is set to rise from 37.5 percent in 2016 to 68.4 percent and 60 million users in 2022, according to a report from Dataxis. HD expansion is being driven by the overall progression of digital television subscribers, set to rise to 94 percent in 2022, and by the growth of the installed base of HDTVs. The report said 54.4 percent of Latin American homes with television had an HD screen in 2016, with the number due to climb to 75.9 percent by 2022.
In terms of countries, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Chile, Panama, Colombia and Costa Rica are currently above the average regional HDTV penetration rate, while Dominican Republic, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Venezuela remain below 20 percent penetration
Canal Digitaal plans more flexible holiday subscription
Canal Digitaal is planning to make its summer subscription for holiday homes more flexible, reports Totaal TV. It currently offers the satellite TV service from 21 March to 21 September, but around a third of customers are thought to be interested in using the service longer, into October. While the exact changes to the subscription have not yet been announced, the provider is already offering an extra month free this year, until 21 October. The new terms are expected to be applied from 2018.
